Northeast Florida Community Action Agency 32nd Annual Data Busters Program

This summer 200 students in Northeast Florida will participate in the Data Busters Program, NFCAA’s signature program. The program is unique to this region’s community action agency which encourages teens, ages 14 – 16, to focus on their future and how to achieve goals set forth. Students in the seven-county service area receive on-the-job training, computer skills classes and workshops to learn other life skills like money management, resume writing and team building.

Data Busters accepts students based on academic   aptitude and good school performance and behavior. Teens  are enrolled for six weeks in Data Busters over the summer.   Two days a week, students attend Microsoft Word, Excel    and PowerPoint classes, and an additional two days the students work a part-time job. Students are paid a stipend for class attendance. On Fridays, students attend a workshop frequently hosted by a local business or organization. For example, the Duval County Extension Office held workshops called “On My Own” to demonstrate how to best manage money.

NFCAA provides transportation to and from the classroom and job sites in most counties. Employers include area nonprofits and government entities.

NFCAA is proud to partner with the following education partners:

Florida State College at Jacksonville in Duval and Nassau counties

St. Johns River State College in Clay, Putnam and St. Johns counties

Baker County School District

Flagler County School District

Daytona State College in Flagler

The summer concludes with a completion ceremony. Awards are distributed, and students share their aspirations for the future. Family, friends and members of the community attend and congratulate the students.

Top participants are awarded Laptops w/printers, or tablets.
